Technische Universität Dresden Institute of Material Handling and Industrial Engineering Professorship of Logistics Engineering
The Institute of Material Handling and Industrial Engineering – formerly Institute of Construction Machines, Conveying Technology and Logistics – of Technische Universität Dresden is doing research and teaching since the 1960s in the field of wire ropes. Today the area of expertise materials handling, especially wire ropes, is covered by the materials handling team of the Professorship of Logistics Engineering.
In applied research as well as in testing service, the materials handling team is a reliable partner for innovative product development, stress and strain analyses and experimental testing in the laboratory and on site. Special testing equipment which is concerned with the focus rope drives and wire ropes itself is available at the institute. Several tests are possible concerning e. g. bending fatigue, rotation / torque behavior, bending efficiency, lateral force stability and determination of friction coefficients between ropes and traction sheaves for elevators and shaft lifting. Wire ropes in connection with its application can be analyzed in service life and lifetime estimations, rope drive analyses and wire rope examinations in case of damage.
Applications and markets
The services of the institute can be used by wire rope manufacturers and users. Our customers are producers and operators of material handling systems like e. g. cranes, elevators and their components.
